Pros:

- The game has a great gameplay loop of walking around in the real world collecting items that are sprinkled around the world.

- The built-in adventures can be very fun, fighting off creatures and collecting rare blocks.

- Being able to build a house on a table then taking it out into the world and walk around it is almost breathtaking the first time that you do it.

Cons:

- The adventures are not truly adventurous.

- Rubies should be easier to earn, as they are important to the game.

- The game lacks a clear point or objective, unlike other AR games like Pokémon GO.

  • Truly Spectacular Game! With a few issues... (as to be expected)

    By YaBoiClark (Pcmac user)

As I said in the title, I am very aware this game has just released which is why I’m here to give a little input in hopes that the game will make some changes. If they do, I am so ready to give this game 5 stars because it’s so much fun so far. However, I believe rubies should be easier to earn. For example, more rubies for completing both daily challenges, as 2 is essentially nothing. Also, you should get a significant amount of rubies for completing career challenges, as they are more difficult and important to the game. Being able to earn rubies easier would make the game that much more incredible I’m sure. Additionally, I think having to wait for something to craft is a little ridiculous and I hope that will be changed. Like, since when have you ever had to do that? I know it’s a new game but now if you want to craft a pickaxe you have to wait to craft wood, then wait for sticks, then wait for the pickaxe. The building mode is also really hard to use so I think there should be like a scale feature. Finally, the game crashes a good bit, but otherwise it is lots of fun. Edit: A waypoint feature where you could click what you wanted to walk to and it have you a little waypoint there with a line going to it would be so cool!
  • More like an AR tech demo

    By Jamesisbaxter (Pcmac user)

As a concept it doesn’t seem that bad. The concept does take a lot from Pokémon GO of course but the thing is it works for Pokémon while it absolutely does not work with the app. There just doesn’t seem to be a point to even “play” this game. You collect blocks, level up, build and all for what? At least in Pokémon GO you train your Pokémon and capture gyms for your team while also capturing all the different types of Pokémon. In the app you build so that’s what you also do in this spinoff but there just doesn’t seem to be a point. In regular the app you have survival and creative mode, this app has similar modes but you have to unlock build plots and collect more blocks and mobs just so you can have the ability to place them and view your build real-time through your camera. Which you cannot turn off the camera btw, at least with Pokémon go you can turn off the AR, the entire concept for this game entirely revolves around the AR aspect otherwise you would just go and play the app. The AR is impressive though but it’s entirely a gimmick. You are able to play your builds in some sort of survival/adventure mode but it really doesn’t affect anything. Just don’t see the point in playing this game.
  • Amazing Game but a Few Minor Bugs and Improvements

    By JamesTheZombie8 (Pcmac user)

This game is great! It’s unbelievable for a game in open beta and would be impressive if it were a full release! I am already level six and I started playing yesterday! I’m so glad that it isn’t like Pokémon GO where the tappables would’ve been in one spot forever. There are so many on my street and in my area! One improvement Mojang can make is that the adventures are not truly adventurous. What I mean by this is that they are just build plates with new blocks that you can collect with tools. Also, the diamond ore is (apparently) able to be collected with your fist? Yeah, you can collect any block without a tool... I learned this the hard way. I went through an adventure and when the diamond ore popped up, I didn’t have an iron pickaxe and went to make one for 30 minutes. By then, the adventure was gone and I was disappointed when I heard that it could’ve been collected with a stone pick. Also, there are many bugs such as sudden crashes but this is expected with a beta version. Overall, great game with a few improvements ☻
  • The future of gaming, 5 stars for the potential, 3 stars for the current state.

    By k1n9bur93r (Pcmac user)

I am really really impressed with what Mojang has been able to do with this application in such an early state. The main gameplay loop of walking around in the real world collecting items that are sprinkled around the world is great and really addicting. The built in adventures can be very fun as well, fighting off creatures and collecting rare blocks. All very addicting. Being able to build a house on a table then taking it out into the world and walk around it is almost breath taking the first time that you do it. This is something that no other AR game, or any game really, can come close to doing. There is a ton of potential to make this world your own, and the core of the app is so flexible, and the platform that was made so adaptable I see no problems when it comes to adding new features and making this experience even more engrossing. The game can be rather buggy, but it is already notably much more stable than it was even yesterday, so high hopes in the front!
